The wedding planning is complete. You have everything in place and your dream wedding day is finally here.
Our 11 Tips for your dream wedding day provide ideas for making your day flow smoothly, so you can relax and enjoy the best day of your life. Relax and enjoy. You got this girl.
Getting Ready Shirt – On Your Dream Wedding Day
When you get up on the morning of your dream wedding day, be sure to put on a shirt that opens all the way down the front. You will not want to risk mussing your hair or makeup after they are done by having to slip your blouse over your head. Photographers also recommend avoiding wearing a bra with straps on the morning of your wedding to eliminate strap marks pictures. Who Knew?
Don’t Plan Too Much On Your Dream Wedding Day
Don’t over-plan activities for your wedding morning. If it is in your budget, get a massage. Take a nap, go for a long walk or other activity you enjoy. Relax.
You will be refreshed and ready for your wedding festivities when you take care of those last-minute details no later than the day before your wedding.
Avoid trying to jam too much into your morning – making hair, make up and nail appointments, followed by a stop at the ceremony and reception venues and maybe even finishing up favors. This is a guaranteed formula for an exhausted bride and wedding day overload.
Got to Please Yourself On Your Dream Wedding Day
This is one the biggest days of your life. This is your dream wedding day. Your wedding is not the time to please everyone. In fact, that is impossible to do. Focus on you and your groom – what you want and let the rest go by.
There is an old Ricky Nelson song (1985 – probably before you were born) called Garden Party. It ended:
“And it’s all right now, learned my lesson well.
You see, ya can’t please everyone, so you got to please yourself.”
Eat at Your Reception
Don’t forget to eat at your reception. Between the excitement, hugs, tears, pictures and dances, it is easy to forget to eat. If needed, ask someone to remind you when it is time to eat, then listen to them.
You will need the energy generated by food to enjoy every moment of your dream wedding day.
Your Wedding Reflects You
Your wedding style and makeup should reflect the person you really are. Resist the urge to do an up-do that makes you look like a poodle or wearing tons of makeup if you are low makeup kind of girl. You will be more comfortable, and your wedding pictures will reflect the real you when you stay true to yourself. You’ll love looking back on your dream wedding day memories and seeing the woman your husband fell in love with.
Be Flexible On Your Dream Wedding Day
Be flexible on the day of your wedding – especially if you have children in the celebration.
Even if they have practiced and know their roles well, some simply will not want to participate or perform an agreed upon task. They may be shy, overwhelmed or just not in the mood. Do not force them to do so.
Just eliminate whatever you had planned as their part, regroup and move on.
The drama is just not worth it (and you won’t get what your envisioned in your dream wedding day anyway when you try to make children perform).
Timeline For Your Dream Wedding Day
Weddings are a celebration and generally do not run on an exact timeline. Brides and grooms who focus on enjoying their day rather than getting caught up in everything going perfectly on a schedule look back on wedding memories with a sense of joy and gratitude.
Your guests are there because they love you and want to share your special day with you. Within reason, does it really matter if the reception started 10 minutes late or early?
When you keep your guests in the loop about what is happening, they will go with the flow.
Calming Wedding Nerves on Your Dream Wedding Day
Doing a first look before the wedding ceremony saves time between the ceremony and the reception.
An often-overlooked benefit is that it also calms the nerves of the bride and groom and spreads the excitement over a longer period when you can enjoy it.
If you are superstitious about seeing the groom before the wedding, have a private mini-ceremony before your pictures. Now you can relax and enjoy your public ceremony and the rest of your day. If guests complain or negatively comment, just smile and remember that is their problem, not yours.
You Won’t Want to Eat on Your Dream Wedding Day
Planning an expensive breakfast or brunch for you and your bridesmaids on the morning of your wedding is probably going to be a waste. The nervous energy you and your party are likely to have will not work well with rich foods. Plan basic comfort foods – not fancy. And make sure you have some pretzels or other grease free snacks you can enjoy if you get the munchies after you are dressed.
Excessive Alcohol Turns Dream Wedding Day into Nightmare
Your reception is a party. But resist the temptation to drink excessive alcohol. You really don’t want to be “the one” in your wedding photos in the less than flattering pictures. Besides you will want to remember and enjoy your wedding night.
Your # 1 Priority– Be Happy and Show It – On Your Dream Wedding Day
Your guests will not remember your centerpieces, the favors, or your wedding shoes. They will remember how happy you are, how much you showed your love for your new partner, and that you included them in your wedding day. Oh, yes and that you spent a few moments with them.
Enjoy every moment. It really does only happen once in a lifetime.
Prioritize how you spend your dream wedding day. Spend time for guests, and don’t forget to reserve some time to spend alone with your new spouse too.
Create your memories around people, not items.
